A crypto casino source of funds check asks where the money or crypto used for a particular gambling transaction came from. A wallet screenshot or blockchain transaction can show movement, but it may not show the economic origin of the assets. The strongest response connects that origin to the casino deposit through a short, documented chain.
Ask the operator for a closed document list and secure upload route before sending anything. Provide records that show your name, dates, relevant amounts and transfers. Redact only unrelated sensitive details where permitted. Never disclose a seed phrase, private key, password or two-factor authentication code.
TL;DR
Source of funds means the origin of the assets used for a transaction; source of wealth means how your overall wealth was accumulated.
Build a chain from salary, sale, savings, investment or other origin to an exchange or bank, then to your wallet and casino deposit.
A blockchain transaction proves that value moved between addresses, not necessarily who controlled them or how the crypto was earned.
Keep names, dates, issuers, relevant amounts, wallet addresses and transaction IDs visible; confirm any redaction with the operator first.
Use only the official secure upload channel, preserve originals and never share wallet recovery words or credentials.
What is a source of funds check?
Source of funds is the origin of the money or assets used to finance a specific transaction. The UK Gambling Commission glossary distinguishes it from source of wealth, which concerns the origin and scale of a person's overall body of wealth.
That difference determines what evidence answers the request.
Check | Question being asked | Typical evidence |
|---|---|---|
Identity or KYC | Are you the person operating the account? | Passport, national ID, address record |
Payment ownership | Do you control the payment account or wallet? | Named exchange statement, wallet-signature process, account screenshot |
Source of funds | Where did the assets used for this transaction come from? | Payslip plus bank/exchange transfer, sale record, trading history, mining or staking statement |
Source of wealth | How was your overall wealth accumulated? | Tax returns, business accounts, investment history, inheritance or property-sale records |
A casino may ask for more than one of these at the same time. Do not answer a source-of-funds request with an identity document alone. Equally, do not send years of financial records before the operator explains whether it needs transaction origin, overall wealth or proof that you control a wallet.
Why can a crypto casino ask for source of funds?
Casino obligations depend on jurisdiction, licence and risk. For Great Britain licensees, the Gambling Commission's identification and verification guidance describes customer due diligence and notes that source-of-funds and legitimate-income information can help assess whether gambling activity is proportionate or suspicious.
Crypto creates an additional evidence problem. Public ledgers may expose transaction paths, but an address normally does not display the legal identity of its controller or explain whether assets came from salary, trading profits, a gift, mining, a peer-to-peer purchase or another source.
The FATF virtual-asset red-flag report identifies transaction patterns, anonymity features, geography, sender or recipient profiles and source of funds or wealth as relevant risk indicators. An indicator is not proof of wrongdoing. It can trigger a request for more information.
An operator also has a legitimate need to identify third-party funding, account takeovers and payment fraud. The process becomes difficult to defend when the request is open-ended, repeatedly expands without explanation or appears only after the customer asks to withdraw despite the same activity being accepted earlier.
The Gambling Commission has published a withdrawal case example in which an operator sought extensive historical source-of-funds information after a withdrawal request. That example concerns the British regulatory context; it is not a worldwide deadline or automatic rule for offshore sites.
What documents can prove source of funds?
The right package depends on how you obtained the assets. One document rarely proves every step. Aim for the smallest set that shows both the economic origin and the transfer path.
Claimed source | Origin evidence | Transfer evidence into crypto |
|---|---|---|
Salary | Payslip, employment letter or tax record | Bank statement showing salary and payment to a named exchange |
Savings | Bank statements covering the accumulation period | Bank-to-exchange transfer and exchange purchase record |
Sale of property or asset | Sale contract, completion statement or lawyer's letter | Bank receipt followed by exchange funding record |
Business income | Company accounts, invoices or tax filings | Business distribution or personal bank receipt, then exchange record |
Investment or crypto trading | Broker or exchange statements and profit-and-loss history | Withdrawal transaction from the named platform to your wallet |
Mining or staking | Pool, validator or platform payout statement | Payout history and transaction IDs to the depositing wallet |
Inheritance or gift | Probate, executor or donor documentation | Bank or wallet receipt matching the declared amount and date |
Loan | Signed loan agreement and lender identity | Receipt of loan proceeds and subsequent acquisition or transfer |
Official platform examples help clarify the evidence logic. Kraken's source-of-funds documentation says proof for a specific transaction may require a document showing how funds were earned, proof they were received and, where relevant, evidence they were transferred into the account. It also describes exchange statements, mining, staking and crypto-lending records.
Crypto.com's source-of-funds guide similarly asks for records showing where funds originated and, for large crypto deposits, how and when the assets were obtained. These are platform examples, not universal casino requirements. Your operator should specify what it accepts.
How do you prove a crypto wallet is yours?
Wallet ownership and source of funds are different. Proving control of an address does not prove that the assets are legitimate or explain how you acquired them. Proving income does not show that the casino deposit came from that income. A complete response may need both.
Use the least invasive method the operator accepts:
A screenshot from the wallet interface showing the relevant public address and transaction, with identifying account information where the wallet is custodial.
A named exchange statement showing the withdrawal address, asset, amount, date and transaction ID.
A cryptographic message-signing challenge supplied through the operator's verified process, where the wallet and network support it.
A small verification transaction only if the operator documents the exact amount, address and purpose through its official channel.
Never reveal the recovery phrase or private key. Those secrets transfer control; they are not evidence to be copied into a compliance ticket. Never install remote-access software or sign an arbitrary wallet transaction presented as “verification.” A legitimate ownership process should explain what is being signed and should not grant spending approval.
If a crypto deposit is missing rather than under compliance review, use the crypto deposit troubleshooting guide to verify network, address, confirmations and transaction status first.
Build an evidence chain from origin to casino
The easiest package to review tells one chronological story. Number the files and add a one-page index.
Example:
01-payslip-august.pdf— shows the declared salary source.02-bank-statement.pdf— shows salary receipt and transfer to the exchange.03-exchange-statement.pdf— shows the named account, purchase and withdrawal.04-wallet-transaction.png— shows receipt into the personal wallet.05-casino-deposit-txid.txt— connects that wallet to the casino deposit.06-explanation.pdf— maps dates, amounts and any fees or conversions.
Amounts do not always match exactly. Network fees, exchange fees, currency conversion and partial transfers can explain differences. State those differences rather than editing documents to make the numbers look identical.
For assets accumulated through many trades, provide the period and platform history requested, plus a clear summary of realised proceeds. A current balance screenshot alone may prove possession but not profit or origin. The operator may request a longer history if the specific deposit cannot otherwise be explained.
What can you redact?
Redaction should protect unrelated information without destroying the evidence. Ask the operator to confirm its policy before editing a file, and keep an untouched original.
Usually essential to the check | May be redacted if the operator permits |
|---|---|
Your name and document issuer | Unrelated account transactions |
Statement and transaction dates | Full account or card numbers beyond identifying digits |
Relevant inbound and outbound amounts | Tax or national identifiers not required for the check |
Relevant counterparty or exchange | Unrelated addresses and reference text |
Wallet address and transaction ID | Other wallet balances not involved in the transaction |
Document completeness and authenticity markers | Non-relevant pages, only if completeness is not required |
Kraken says sensitive information may be redacted while essential items remain visible, including name, issuer, dates, balances and transaction amounts. Crypto.com advises light redaction and says relevant inbound and outbound transactions must remain visible. Treat those as examples of why over-redaction fails, not as a promise that a casino will accept the same format.
Do not use a paintbrush that merely covers text visually while leaving the underlying PDF layer readable. Create a properly redacted copy, inspect it, and retain the original. File metadata can also contain names or software details; check the final upload without altering the evidential content.
A safe submission checklist
Before uploading, confirm:
The request came through the operator's official account or verified domain.
The operator identified whether it needs KYC, wallet ownership, source of funds or source of wealth.
You have a closed list of required documents and accepted formats.
Each file is legible, complete enough for its purpose and within any stated date range.
Names, dates, relevant amounts, issuers and transfer references are consistent.
Redactions hide only information not needed for the stated check.
No file contains a seed phrase, private key, password, authentication code or spending approval.
You saved the request, every submitted file and the submission confirmation.
If a no-KYC site first requests documents at withdrawal, the no-KYC verification guide explains how to compare the request with the terms and preserve the account record.
What if the casino keeps asking for more?
An expanding request is not automatically abusive. A first document may reveal a new transfer, platform or period that needs explanation. The operator should still be able to say what gap remains.
Ask in writing:
Which specific source or transfer remains unverified, why did the documents already supplied not resolve it, what additional item will close that gap, and what is the current status of my balance and withdrawal?
Keep compliance and complaint threads separate where possible. The compliance team may be unable to reveal suspicious-activity details, but support should still identify the account state, reasonable next step and complaint route unless applicable law prevents disclosure.
Do not make another deposit, create a second account or continue gambling in an attempt to pass the check. If the operator refuses payment after you supplied the requested evidence, use the chronology in what to do when a casino refuses to pay.
Our guide to how crypto casino withdrawals work also separates operator review time from blockchain confirmation time. A compliance hold and an unconfirmed transaction are different problems.
What should a fair operator process include?
A workable source-of-funds process protects the business and the customer. Before or at the appropriate risk trigger, the operator should explain the purpose, document categories, secure upload route and effect on the account. It should avoid collecting data unrelated to the identified risk.
The review should have ownership, an auditable decision record and a way to escalate inconsistencies. A customer should not receive three incompatible document lists from three support agents. If a request changes, the new reason should be recorded.
Operators should also separate temporary restriction from final forfeiture. An AML review may justify pausing a withdrawal while a legal obligation is resolved; it does not by itself answer who ultimately owns every part of the balance. Contract wording, law and the facts still matter.
